Spending time setting up the classroom has me looking forward to greeting the new second grade children.  Last year I developed a relationship with the children and I know they will be arriving with smiles on their face and curiosity in their hearts.

WEATHER PERMITTING on June 1st we will have a pizza picnic and play tailgate games (12:25-2:20).

We will have pizza, juice boxes, water & popsicles outside at 12:25pm. Students should bring a towel or blanket to sit on.  After lunch we will begin playing tailgate games.  If you have a game you are willing to share please let us know.  

We will need parents to pick up & help serve food.  

We will also need parents to set up & run games.  Students will rotate among the different game stations.  Any kind of outdoor game is great....you overachiever parents feel free to check out Pinterest for ideas!!

As you already know, we have begun reviewing for our end of the year tests.  Below is a schedule of when we will be taking them and what the students can expect to see!  Please review at home with them!

Monday May 21st: 

Reading (no need to review)

and Math- place value, compare and contrast, addition and subtraction (both with and without regrouping) and graphs 

Tuesday May 22nd: 

ELA- Kinds of Sentences, Editing, Naming and Action parts, antonym and synonyms, and Proper Nouns

Wednesday May 23rd:

Religion- See Religion Study Guide

We hope that you all are enjoying your weekend.  Here is a look ahead at our week and some information regarding our upcoming Mother's Day plays. 

Important Dates: 

Friday May 4th:  First Friday Mass

**Please note: All field trip permission slips and money ($19) are due! 

Play Costumes and Props:

We have started collecting parts of costumes and props for our plays.  If you have any items that we could use (king crowns, tiaras, tutus, wings, baseball caps, bathrobes etc...) please send them in labeled with your child's name.  Please note, there is no specific costume required for any part! The students can bring in whatever they would like for their part.  

For our plays, we are also collecting large appliance boxes.  We will be using these boxes to make backdrops.  If you have any you would like to spare, we would love to use them!  

What we are learning: 

ELA- beginning our story: Goat in a Rug

Continuing with suffixes (our spelling words), idioms, nouns, story elements and proper use of commas. 

Math- completing chapter 8 (measurement)

Religion- Finishing Chapter 18

Social Studies/Science- scholastic news and the solar system

Monday April 13th: Lunch Module closes

Friday April 20th: All chaperone names must be in.  We will be picking two per homeroom. Emails will be sent out on Monday Aril 23rd with who was chosen from the hat.

Tuesday April 24th:  Coin Project Due 

What we are learning: 

ELA- Continuing our story: Dex The Heart of a Hero 

Continuing with contractions,  prefixes, story elements and proper use of commas, and our spelling words "or" and "ore" words .

Math- Continuing chapter 7 (money and time). Have the students practice telling time

Religion- Finishing chapter 17- Giving Thanks to God

Hello Friends! 

On Monday, May 7th 1st & 2nd grade will be going to the Keswick Theater to see the play Charlotte’s Web.  

We will leave school at 9:00am.  We will return in time for lunch.  

We will need 2 parents per classroom to chaperone. Please send your name in to your child’s teacher BY APRIL 20th if you would like to volunteer.  Names will be put in a hat and we will pick two lucky winners per classroom.  

The cost of the trip is $19.  All checks should be made out to Nativity of Our Lord School.  Permission slips will also be sent home.  

We are excited for our trip!!
