- Hello friends!

 

We hope you all had a lovely weekend. Here is a look at what is happening this week.  

 

Important Upcoming Dates and Info:

Donut Day Money: If you would like to order a donut for donut day (Next Tuesday), the $1 is due on Wednesday Feb. 27th

First Friday: We will be having First Friday Mass this Friday.  Please make sure all girls have their sweaters.  

Snow Folders: In the event of a snow day, please have the children complete the next page in each packet.  Packets will be collected on the day we return.  

Terranova Practice:  We have begun practicing for our Terranovas which we will take in March.  In preparation,  students can review these math concepts at home:

- Practice identifying and counting coins

- Discuss who or what are on coins and how the coins look

- Review minute and hour hands, telling time, and how much time passes snow

This week we are learning:

ELA: Continuing our story, Mr. Tanen's Tie Trouble.  We will be working with adding "ed" and "ing" (our spelling words), Pronouns, abbreviations, compound sentences and building our fluency strategies. 

MATH: Continuing chapter 6: 3 digit numbers (place value, modeling, problem solving,  fact families,  and regrouping/borrowing into the hundreds' place)

RELIGION: Chapter 14: God's Forgiving Love and Beginning Chapter 15: We Gather for Mass

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: Planets, Outer Space and communities

Good Snowy Morning,
Please check dojo or your email on Student's Progress for the snow assignment.  The students were given the packet in January and we discussed it together.  Today they should complete the first page of each subject.  Thanks for your support and help.

Happy Catholic Schools Week, friends!!!

 We hope you are all having a good start to your Monday!!

Here is a run down of all the exciting things happening this week: 

Important Dates: 

Monday January 28th- Open House

Tuesday January 29th- Service Day: PLEASE REMEMBER ALL FOOD DONATIONS ARE DUE TODAY! 

Wednesday January 30th- Student Appreciation Day- DRESS DOWN DAY, Talent Show and Ice Cream Treat from Home and School

Thursday January 31st- Penny Wars  PLEASE REMEMBER ALL PENNY DONATIONS (no silver coins) ARE DUE TODAY!

Friday February 1st- Teacher Appreciation Day and Mass

What we are learning: 

Math: Playing our STEM math games and continuing Chapter 5; 2 digit subtraction (modeling, regrouping, and break aparts). 

ELA: "Schools Around the World", vowel digraphs "EA" and "EE" (spelling words), compound sentences with more details, quotation marks, continuing our "how to" writings 

Religion: Catholic Schools Week and continuing our discussion of the sacraments 

Social Studies/Science: Schools Around the World, Map skills, and the weather

Hello friends! Welcome back and welcome 2019!  We hope you all had a lovely break and a happy new year.  Here is a look at what is happening this week.   Important Info: Math Games: We have begun collecting materials to build our math games (please see note in your student's folder). The games will be made in groups during class time.  Materials we are looking for include: old game pawns or pieces, toy cars, cards, dice, timers, spinners, BOXES or POSTER BOARD.  Any materials you could share would be greatly appreciated.  We will begin building our games later in the week.  This week we are learning: ELA: beginning our story: Click Clack Moo.  We will be working with plurals adding "s" and "es"(our spelling words), prefixes "pre" and "mis", compound sentences and building our fluency strategies.  MATH: finishing chapter 4, and staring chapter 5: subtracting 2 digit numbers (problem solving, break a-parts, fact families,  and regrouping/borrowing) RELIGION: Chapter 10: The Church  SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: Our families and heritage, Martin Luther King  We want to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2019.   Thank you all for all you do!  Stay warm! Hopefully my second grade family is enjoying the holiday.  I would like to take is opportunity to thank you for your generous remembrance of me this season.  Most of all thank you for sharing your special angels with me.  Enjoy the New Year!

December 10th

Hello Friends,  We cannot believe how fast December is flying by!  We know that many of you are busy with Holiday happenings; because of this there will be NO HOMEWORK this week.  Please take this time to spend with your families.  Your child can continue practicing math facts and reading log! Important Information:  Thursday December 13th is Secret Santa Shop.  Please make sure all students have their money and shopping lists.  We will NOT be wrapping in school, so wrapping supplies is not necessary. Christmas tour of lights and Pageant:  Tuesday December 11th is our school tour and Christmas pageant.  The school will be open for tours from 5:30 until 6:30pm. Please come in and check out our Christmas lights and class doors!   All students should be seated in the Community Center with their teachers by 6:45PM at the Latest.  Students are to wear their WINTER UNIFORM but are allowed to add Christmas accessories (socks, bows, headbands) and a Christmas sweater, t-shirt or sweatshirt.  We are asking they NOT WEAR HATS.  These will obstruct the views of the students behind them.  Report cards will be distributed on Friday December 14h. Hello Friends!!

Happy Advent!  We hope you all had a lovely weekend!  We are sure it was a busy one!  

Looking ahead this week:

Important dates:

December 4th: Pretzel orders due 

December 6th and 7th: NO SCHOOL

December 10th: Second Trimester Begins (Report cards will be given out on December 14th)

Homework Note:

We know that the month of December can be a hectic one. Due to the craziness of the season, there will not be as many homework assignments.   Please enjoy this season of Advent and preparation for Christmas with your family.  We ask that the students continue their reading logs and practice their math facts! 

This week we are learning:

ELA: Beginning our new story: How the Chipmunk Got His Stripes. Spelling: verbs ending in "ING" and "ED".  Phonics: making nouns plural by adding "ES" and "S".  We will also review synonyms and antonyms.  

MATH: Chapter 4: adding two digit numbers using modeling and place value.

RELIGION: Advent- Preparing for our Savior's birth

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: What it means to give, and Christmas celebrations around the world.
