December 12, 2016

Hopefully you enjoyed a productive weekend getting ready for the Holiday.
The students are working on their song for the concert.  They are looking forward to performing for you.  I know that some of you also have a child in the band and will be attending that on Tuesday night.  Due to the busy time of the
year we have cancel homework until after the holiday.  We will work harder during the school day.

Enjoy the holiday preparation with your family!

December 6, 2016

Hope the Holiday season is treating you jolly.  The children's excitement is increasing with each passing day.  Today St. Nick arrived leaving the students with a surprise.  We are learning about the Advent Season and preparing for the birth of baby Jesus.  They created a special gift which is on our
bulletin board.  We are moving into double digit addition bringing excitement to the class.  We just finished reading the Ugly Vegetables and the children were eager to learn about special vegetables.

Also tomorrow we have a big art project scheduled with the children.  You will be so happy to see the end result.  If possible could you please send in an old tee shirt to wear as a smock.  Some of the children have already brought in the t-shirt so no need to duplicate.

Thank you for all your support and hope that you embrace your family this holiday season.

November 14, 2016
Happy Monday!  The time is moving quickly.  Soon it will be Thanksgiving and am so happy to count our second grade family among our blessings.
The children are moving forward with Math adding the subtraction skills, please continue to practice math fact families.  Our reading essential question is "What are animal homes like?"  We will spend time learning about Animal homes, please continue to practice sight words with your child.  In Religion we are spending time counting our blessings while learning about St. John the Baptist and Jesus is Our Savior.
December is right around the corner and the students will be participating in my holiday activities.
They are looking forward to the most festive time of the year.
Thanks for all your support.

October 18, 2016
The children are continuing to work on their math concepts.  We are practicing everyday the place value concept.  In Religion we are  learning about  Psalms as a form of praise to God.  Today they clapped and sang which was a special event.  In Reading we are looking forward to reading Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin.  It is a fun book.  The children know that a diary is a daily record of events that happen to you.  I wonder what a spider would write about if it had a diary?  We will read this story to find out.  Looking forward to this beautiful weather week.

The children have shared their delights that they experience with Fall.  Some expressed how fall is their mom's or dad's favorite.  Also you may have some ambitious leaf rakers because they love jumping in the pile.  We have been working to be successful in the classroom.  We have decided to send home a printed copy of the homework sheet due to the difficulty in viewing it on line. The Trinity has been the topic in Religion class and they seem to recognize it as a mystery of our faith.  Their discussions are very pure and innocent.  The strong faith attitude is a tribute to you as a family.  Math is moving forward with naming numbers in varied ways.  They also love the Math games that they have participated in with partners.  Reading My Family has generated many positive events that occur in your homes - you should be proud.
The class is working on the chatty atmosphere.  They are looking forward to earning stickers to be redeemed for a reward - maybe a show and tell, or bringing in a small stuffed animal, etc.  Thank you for your support in advance.
Thank you all for the support and help that you are always ready to share.

I am sure we are all looking forward to the arrival of Fall.  The children have shared their delights that they experience with Fall.  Some expressed how fall is their mom's or dad's favorite.  Also you may have some ambitious leaf rakers because they love jumping in the pile.  We have been working to be successful in the classroom.  We have been completing the homework in school to alleviate the sorrow of not enjoying the last of outdoor play.

Hard to believe that Summer is upon us.  First I would like to thank my second grade family for all of the support and help you provided this year.  Your student will be moving on to third grade with excitement.  They will be bringing home a packet to be completed over the summer and returned to school in the beginning of the new year.  As you know it is imperative to keep the skills fresh throughout the summer months.  Read, read, read, Write, write, write, and use Math every day.

You should be proud of the job you have done with your children.

Please stay safe as the summer weather entices us to participate in fun activities - use sun screen and be mindful of safe swimming and playing.  Enjoy!!!!

March 17th

Happy St. Patrick's Day to our Second Grade Family.  The children look so festive decked out in the GREEN today.
The Easter Holiday is quickly approaching and we know how challenging it can be with a family.  So next week will be a homework free week!

The children are now learning about the sacraments.  Recognizing the Sacraments of Initiation - they are growing physically and SPIRITUALLY.  Reading will bring us to Fairy Tales and Folktales.  You will be happily surprised around Mother's Day to  witness what they are capable of doing.  Math still challenges the children and they continue to reach for the stars.

Thank you for all your continued support!!
Have a Happy and Holy Easter.

February 26th

Hope everyone survived the storm.  Today we took the practice test for the Terra Nova Testing.  The children will not have homework next week.  We discussed that a good night's sleep and a nutrition rich breakfast would be beneficial.  Please send your child to school with at least four sharpened #2 pencils and erasers.  Because the testing is administered in the morning it is important that the children arrive on time.  The children may bring in a personal book to read and a small stuffed animal to be used as the finish.  The afternoons will be filled with fun educational activities.  We have a journal piece scheduled to entice the students to use their best writing skills and observation.  They will be writing to describe their favorite candy and then presenting the piece to the other second grade class.  Another writing piece will be connected to our story …Gloria..  In the story her and her friend constructed kites that possessed their personal wishes on the tail.  We hope to build our own wishing kites.
Thank you for all your continued support.

January 27th

Hope everyone survived the Blizzard of 2016.  The children came back with some great stories.
Yeah! our books arrived and the reaction from the children was priceless.
We have been busy creating our math games.  They will be shared Monday, February 1st.  Hopefully you will have the opportunity to try out the best games ever.  We are finishing up Charlotte's Web.  The best thing about the story for the students were meeting all the characters and learning the difference between the City and the Country.  Our Religion has given us the Laws that God provided for us.
Looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

Happy New Year!!!  It was so great seeing the children's excited faces.  They were so happy to share some of their holiday memories with us.  You and your children have made my holiday special.  I appreciate all your generous wishes.  Thank you for all your do!!

We will be continuing the Charlotte's Web book which we are enjoying.  We are learning about farm life, kindness, responsibility and most of all friendship.  In math our addition skills will be practiced.  Religion brings us to understand the Holy Family.

Hopefully, we all are looking forward to learning and growing in the New Year!!
