December 10th
Hello Friends,
We cannot believe how fast December is flying by! We know that many of you are busy with Holiday happenings; because of this there will be NO HOMEWORK this week. Please take this time to spend with your families. Your child can continue practicing math facts and reading log!
Important Information:
Thursday December 13th is Secret Santa Shop. Please make sure all students have their money and shopping lists. We will NOT be wrapping in school, so wrapping supplies is not necessary.
Christmas tour of lights and Pageant:
Tuesday December 11th is our school tour and Christmas pageant. The school will be open for tours from 5:30 until 6:30pm. Please come in and check out our Christmas lights and class doors!
All students should be seated in the Community Center with their teachers by 6:45PM at the Latest.
Students are to wear their WINTER UNIFORM but are allowed to add Christmas accessories (socks, bows, headbands) and a Christmas sweater, t-shirt or sweatshirt. We are asking they NOT WEAR HATS. These will obstruct the views of the students behind them.
Report cards will be distributed on Friday December 14h.

December 3rd
Hello Friends!!
Happy Advent! We hope you all had a lovely weekend! We are sure it was a busy one!
Looking ahead this week:
Important dates:
December 4th: Pretzel orders due
December 6th and 7th: NO SCHOOL
December 10th: Second Trimester Begins (Report cards will be given out on December 14th)
Homework Note:
We know that the month of December can be a hectic one. Due to the craziness of the season, there will not be as many homework assignments. Please enjoy this season of Advent and preparation for Christmas with your family. We ask that the students continue their reading logs and practice their math facts!
This week we are learning:
ELA: Beginning our new story: How the Chipmunk Got His Stripes. Spelling: verbs ending in "ING" and "ED". Phonics: making nouns plural by adding "ES" and "S". We will also review synonyms and antonyms.
MATH: Chapter 4: adding two digit numbers using modeling and place value.
RELIGION: Advent- Preparing for our Savior's birth
SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: What it means to give, and Christmas celebrations around the world.

November 19th
Hello Friends!
Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday there will be no homework this week. Please take this time to read or spend time together as a family.
We will be having a math test on Chapter 3 tomorrow. Students should review chapter 3. If your student has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact their homeroom teacher.
There is a half of day this Wednesday! Students will not need a lunch, but please remember to pack a snack.
This Saturday is Nativity's 60th anniversary celebration. All are invited to attend mass and a reception immediately following. The school will be open for visitors! Come by and visit our classrooms.
As we approachThanksgiving, we wanted to take this time to thank you all for all that you do. We count you all in our blessings and are very thankful for our Nativity family.

Hello Friends!
A few reminders:
Art Smocks: Please remember to send in an art smock or old t-shirt for painting and messy art projects. All smocks and shirts should have your chili's name on it.
Headphones: We are asking that each students please bring in earbuds or headphones for our iPads. Students can bring them in a labeled baggie with their name. These headphones/ear buds will be staying in school for the year, but will go home in June.
Donations: This holiday season Nativity of Our Lord is asking for donations of hats, gloves, and board games to benefit the children at the Mother of Mercy House. All donations are due no later then December 10th. Thank you to those who have so graciously donated!
Reading Logs: We are promoting a fun atmosphere for reading. In that honor, going home with your students today is a reading log. We are asking for the students to monitor their reading activity. When the log is filled in, your kiddo can return it to their homeroom teacher for a prize!

What we are learning:
ELA: Finishing Animals Building Homes. Beginning the story- The Ugly Vegetables. We will be focusing on proper nouns, informative writing, double consonants and "Ck" (spelling words) and homophones
Religion: Finishing Jesus is our Savior and beginning the Chapter: The Traveler on the Road to Emmaus
Math: Continue Chapter 3: addition, subornation and related facts. Using part, part, whole to solve word problems (break apart) and equal groups
Social Studies and Science: Building a community, how do animals make their homes, and beginning Thanksgiving (Native Americans and Pilgrims)

October 29th
Hello Friends!
Happy Monday!
We are looking forward to a fun week ahead! Please remember all Saints costumes are due TOMORROW- October 30th.
Our Saint Parade will be tomorrow in the school yard at 9am. Students are to wear their gym uniforms to school still. We will be putting the saints costumes on over our uniforms.
Please make sure all parts of the costumes are labeled, since we will be keeping them in our classrooms for Thursday's Mass. Students are to wear their regular winter uniform to school on Thursday for mass. We will be putting our costumes on over our uniforms. All Saints Day Mass will be held on Thursday Nov.1 at 10 am. All friends and family are invited to attend!
Please remember tomorrow is a half of day (Dismissal is at 11:55) and there is no school on Wednesday October 31st due to conferences.
We look forward to meeting with you all and celebrating our Saints!

Looking ahead for this week:
October 30th is our saint parade! All students should bring their costumes to school, please make sure all parts are together, labeled and in a bag or hanger. If you have your costume ready ahead of time, we can keep them in the classrooms. We will be parading around at 9am out back along with our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten friends. All families and friends are invite to the school yard for this event! We are looking forward to seeing you all there!
November 1st is All Saints Day! Second grade has been asked to wear their Saint Costumes to our school mass which will be held on November 1st at 10am. We will be keeping the costumes in our classroom from our parade to make it easier. All parents are invited to mass to see our Saints!

October 30th is our saint parade! All students should bring their costumes to school, please make sure all parts are together, labeled and in a bag or hanger. Hello Friends!!!
We hope that you had a lovely weekend! Here is a look ahead at our week!
Just a reminder, your student should have a homework sheet with this week's homework assignments. If your child should have any difficulty with homework, please circle the number and let their homeroom teacher know. We will gladly go over it with them.
Another friendly reminder: All books should be covered in clear contact paper. Thank you for your help with this.
We will be painting this year. We ask that all students bring in an art smock to use. These smocks can be old t-shirts or button-ups. Please make sure your student's name is on the smock.
Looking ahead: Saint Projects (the construction paper banner) is due on October 19th. All information regarding the project was handed out during Back to School Night. If your child finishes and would like to turn in their project early, that is absolutely fine!
Our Saint Parade will be held on the morning of October 30th, along with the PreK and K Halloween parade. Saint Costumes should be simple. Please do not feel you need to go out and buy one. Costumes could be made with old bathrobes, sheets, dresses, etc. Be creative! Costumes can also be brought in early!

Tuesday: 9/25 Fall Fundraiser begins! (Yankee Candle)
Friday: 9/28 Saint Names due to homeroom teachers. Please let your student's homeroom teacher know the name of the saint your child has chosen. Projects are not due until October!
What we are learning:
ELA- Finishing our story: My Family We will be focusing on short "o", "u" and "e" words, (spelling test on Wednesday) CVC patterns, informational texts, compare and contrast and complete sentences (subjects and predicates), writing a friendly letter and begin writing paragraphs!
Math- Chapter One Number Concepts: Even and Odd, Tens and Ones, place value, standard form, modeling numbers and counting patterns
Religion- Chapter Two: The Trinity test on Wednesday
Science/Soc. Studies- Importance in our communities and community helpers
