Dec. 17- Door Tour (5:30-6:30pm) and Christmas Pageant (7pm)
           * Tour the school and see the lights and doors!
*Students will line up in their assigned spot in the gym by 6:45. Student should NOT come to line with
their coats!!!!!!!
            *Students will wear their winter uniform- they may add a Christmas sweater,
                tie or socks.  1st grade should NOT wear anything on their head for the
                Pageant- we will provide a “speacial something” that night for the 1st 
                Grade to wear on their heads.

Dec. 18- Christmas Comfy Cozy Day
         *students may pay $1 (to benefit CHOP) and come to school to their comfiest coziest Christmas 
            attire
           -Christmas Cookies (1:30-2:30)
        *1st & 2nd grade students will decorate 6 sugar cookies.
        *Each student needs 1 plastic knife, 1 jar of vanilla icing and candy toppings                   
          for decorating their cookies. Please put all icing, toppings and knife in a large ziploc bag with your child's
name on it.
        *We will need parent volunteers for this event.  Please contact your child's 
        teacher, if you can help. All volunteers must have clearances.  We respectfully request no younger siblings.
Dec. 19- Red & Green Day *Students may add red & green to their uniform.
Dec. 20- Christmas Prayer Service (2pm)

We cannot believe how fast December is flying by!  We know that many of you are busy with Holiday happenings; because of this there will be NO HOMEWORK this week.  Please take this time to spend with your families.  Your child can continue practicing math facts and reading!

Thursday December 12th is Secret Santa Shop.  Please make sure all students have their money and shopping lists.  We will NOT be wrapping in school, so wrapping supplies is not necessary.

Report cards will be distributed on Friday December 13h.

Hello Friends!!

Happy Advent!  We hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and break!  We are sure it was a busy one!  

Looking ahead this week:
Important dates:
December 5th: Pretzel orders due 
December 6th: First Friday Mass 9am and Saint Nicholas Day 
December 9th: Second Trimester Begins (Report cards will be given out on December 13th)


Homework Note:
We know that the month of December can be a hectic one. Due to the craziness of the season, there will not be as many homework assignments.   Please enjoy this season of Advent and preparation for Christmas with your family.  We ask that the students continue reading and practice their math facts! 

This week we are learning:
ELA:  Beginning our new story: Jellies.  Verbs (past, present, and future), contractions (our spelling words), and suffixes.  We will also review synonyms and antonyms.  Both tests (Jellies Comprehension and Spelling) will be next week!
MATH: We will be having our math test for Chapter 3 on Thursday 12/5 (this will be our first grade for the 2nd trimester). 
We will begin Chapter 4: adding two digit numbers using modeling and place value.
RELIGION: Advent- Preparing for our Savior's birth
SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: What it means to give, our 5 senses and a World of Culture (Christmas around the World)

Dear friends, 
We hope that you are all having a lovely start to the week. 
We know that with the holidays approaching you are all very busy. Starting this week, 2nd grade will not have any written homework until the end of the holidays (December included). We are asking the students to continue reading each night, practice sight words, and math facts.  We hope that you take this time to enjoy this chaotic but magical season with your families! 

A few reminders: 
Giving Tuesday: Tomorrow is giving Tuesday. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. For students who bring in $5, they will be given a thank you pair of Nativity sunglasses.  All proceeds will benefit our school STEAM lab. 
Candy Guessing: Student Council is hosting another candy guessing contest during morning recess (Hershey kisses or life savers).  The chances are 3 for $1. Tomorrow is the last day for the contest. 
Thanksgiving Holiday: Nov. 27th is a half day of school.  The School will be closed on Nov. 28th and Nov. 29th for the holiday.  

We wanted to take a minute to thank you all for all that you do! We are extremely grateful for your continued support! We are very lucky to have such great families!  We wish you all a very blessed and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!

Hello Friends!
With the cold weather upon us, we are sending home our SNOW FOLDERS today.  These red folders should remain in the students' backpacks at all times.  In the event of a snow day, students will complete the first worksheet in each packet. Snow day 2, students will complete the 2nd worksheet in each packet, and so on.
Any questions regarding the folders, just let us know!

Hello Friends!
We decided to send next week's email blast today to give you all a head start on the projects.  
Going home today are two fun projects for Thanksgiving.  Please feel free to complete these activities together as a family! 
Feather Project: Students are to decorate their feathers with 5 things (or more) of that they are grateful for.  Students can draw, use photos, glitter, write words, etc.  Be creative!  These feathers will hang in the hallway with our class grateful turkey! Feathers are due on November 15th
My Thanksgiving Dinner Math project:  Students are to plan a Thanksgiving Dinner for $25.  Please complete the worksheets provided (going home today also).  Use the attached piece of loose leaf to show ALL math! Math Dinner Project is due on Tuesday November 19th.  
Any questions with these projects, just let us know. 
A few reminders:

Hello Friends!
Thank you to you all for your hard work on our Saints' costumes!  2nd grade looked amazing and we know that you all worked very hard.  Job well done! 
Please note changes on this week's homework sheet. Due to last Friday's unexpected day off we will be moving some of our tests.
                         Our Religion Test on chapter 6 will be on Thursday 11/7.
                         Our Spelling Test (ck words) and Reading Test (Ugly Vegetables) will be on Friday 11/8. 
A few reminders:

Happy Monday!

Looking ahead:  Saint Projects (the construction paper banner) is due on October 18th.  All information regarding the project was handed out during Back to School Night.  If your child finishes and would like to turn in their project early, that is absolutely fine!  
Our Saint Parade will be held on the morning of October 29th, along with the PreK and K Halloween parade.  Saint Costumes should be simple.  Please do not feel you need to go out and buy one.  Costumes could be made with old bathrobes, sheets, dresses, etc.  Be creative!  Costumes can also be brought in early! Please make sure all parts of costumes are labeled with students' names!
We will also be wearing our costumes to First Friday Mass on November 1st in honor of All Saints Day. 
If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact your child's homeroom teacher!

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be held on the afternoon of October 29th and morning of October 30th.  

Important Dates: 

Friday October 18th: Written Saint Project Due and lunch module opens (November)

Looking ahead...
Important dates for the month of October:
October 4th: All Saint Names are due to Homeroom Teachers
October 7th: Winter Uniform Begins
October 8th: Yankee Candle Fundraiser Due
October 9th: PICTURE DAY! Please be in full winter uniform for pictures
October 29thSAINT PARADE and halloween parade (Students should bring their costumes in.  We will be parading with the PreK and Kindergarten outback of school around 9am! We will keep our costumes at school since we will need them again on Nov. 1st) Please remember it is an 11:55 dismissal!  
Nov. 1st: First Friday Mass- Second Grade will wear their Saint costumes during Mass to help celebrate All Saints Day!

Just a reminder, your student should have a homework sheet with this week's homework assignments.  If your child should have any difficulty with homework, please circle the number and let their homeroom teacher know.  We will gladly go over it with them.

Class Directory- If you would like to be included in the 2nd grade directory, please email your information as soon as possible to the homeroom moms (Kristin Conti and Lauren Deluisi). 
Headphones and Art Smocks: If you have not already, please send in headphones/ear buds and art smocks with your child.  We will be painting and using iPads throughout the year.

Hello Friends!!!
First, we would like to welcome you all to second grade!! We are off to a wonderful start and hope you are enjoying 2nd grade so far! 

All information and papers were due to the office.  Please make sure to have them returned ASAP.  

Homework will begin today! Any questions with it just let us know!

All books should be covered in clear contact paper (copybooks do not need to be covered).  Please have them covered at your earliest convenience. 

We will be using iPads periodically in class.  If your student has headphones or earbuds please send them in.  We will return them at the end of the year.  Also, we will sometimes be painting in 2nd grade.  Please send in an old shirt or smock the students can use for art time.

September 9th-  Hot lunch and pretzels begin.

Good Afternoon, Friends!!!
We hope that you had a wonderful weekend!  
Thank you to our special guests who attended this morning's plays.  We hope you enjoyed them! The students worked so hard, and we are very proud of them! We cannot thank you enough for your continued support.    
There will be no homework sheet this week.  The students have begun copying homework into their copybooks. If you should have any questions, please let us know.   
We will continue reviewing for our end of the year tests.  Below is a schedule of when we will be taking them (next week) and what the students can expect to see!  Please review at home with them!

May 15th: Trip to Keswick Theatre.  Students should wear regular Summer uniforms 
                Parish May Procession at 7pm.  Students attending should meet in the church Hall before.
May 16th: Science Fair sponsored by Archbishop Wood.  Students should bring in a plastic shopping bag labeled with
                their name for the event.
May 17th: Field Day!  Please make sure students wear sunblock and bring water bottles.  Students are to wear gym
                uniforms!

We have begun reviewing for our end of the year tests.  Below is a schedule of when we will be taking them and what the students can expect to see!  Please review at home with them!
Going home with all students today is a permission slip for our school assembly on Friday (courtesy of our Principal for the Day).  Please sign the permission slip for your child to attend this Zoo assembly.  This assembly is free and the options for photos are completely optional!
Just a reminder, all white BINGO snack bags are due on Wednesday.  Please remember to send in pennies also.

1st and 2nd grade are going to be VERY busy in May and June!!
Here are a few important dates:
May 8th- Grandparents Bingo *Students will bring a snack to share with grandparents during bingo.
May 13th- ***2nd grade ONLY*** Special Person Day 9am  *info was sent home from your child's 2nd grade teacher*
May 15th- Field Trip *students will wear regular uniform NOT gym uniform!
May 16th- Archbishop Wood Science Fair  *Wood AP students will present a hands-on science fair for 1st and 2nd grade. Students must bring a reusable grocery bag to carry all the handouts they receive from the Wood students. 
May 17th- Field Day *Students may wear their gym uniform. Don't forget to send a water bottle (with your child's FULL name on it) and apply sunscreen to your child.  Students may bring a towel or blanket to sit on while we watch the tug-o-war. 
May 20th-23rd- End of year assessments *schedule & study guides will be provided by your child's teacher
May 24th-27th- No school
May 30th- Ascension Thursday Mass  * 1st graders will sing to their 8th grade prayer partners at the end of mass.
May 31st- Tailgate Games Day *Students may wear gym uniforms. We will need parents to run games.  If you can not help at the event but have a game you are willing to share please let me know. Students should bring a towel or blanket to sit on during our pizza picnic lunch.
June 3rd- Summer Show & Tell * Students may bring in one item that will tell us something about their summer plans. Students must be able to tell 3 facts about their item/summer plans and answer 2 questions.
June 4th-   - Game Day *Students may bring in a board game to play with friends.  Students MUST know how to play the game and be able to explain the rules to friends. 
June 6th- No school
June 7th- Last day of school *9am Mass  11:55 Dismissal
